Counselling & Psychotherapy:
I work with adults and teens across a broad spectrum of mental health issues including anxiety and depression, grief and loss, relationship issues, parenting, personal growth and vocational challenges as well as psychiatric illnesses including trauma and PTSD.
I believe therapy is a collaborative process and work with clients to create goals and outcomes meaningful to them and provide hope for their future. Key to my treatment is growing personal strength and resilience and expanding resources and supports. I have a flexible practice approach because each client is unique, but key theories that inform my practice include: Systems Theory, Internal Family Systems, Attachment and Neurobiology.
I believe that ongoing professional training is key to working with clients. It ensures clinicians stay abreast of the latest research and it provides professional efficacy for clients. I have spent the past 20 years furthering my professional development and have developed specializations in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), EFT Tapping, EMDR, Mindfulness, Expressive Arts, Neurobiology Psycho-Education, Resilience, and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. I continue to train monthly with leading trauma and wellness experts in Canada and the United States, including Dr. Philippe Gauvreau, Psychologist, Lisa Ferentz, MSW, and Janina Fisher, PhD.
Outside my private practice, I am excited to share that along with a Family Health Team colleague, I have designed and implemented a Trauma Group Program incorporating Expressive Arts and Psycho-education to facilitate emotional regulation and stabilization for complex trauma clients. We are currently in the process of creating a partnership with Trent University developing a 5 year research project with this program.
Please note: When choosing a therapist, it is important to ask about education, training and ongoing clinical consultation and supervision of clinical work for best outcomes.
